What happens in the real test
You take the Life in the UK Test at a registered test centre. You'll be asked for photo ID and proof of address, and you must book at least three days in advance through GOV.UK. The test costs £50 and takes 45 minutes.
You get 24 multiple-choice questions, drawn at random from a large bank, covering all five chapters of the handbook. You need 18 correct — 75% — to pass. Your result appears on screen as soon as you submit.
Question types you'll see
- Pick one of four. The most common type, roughly two-thirds of the test.
- Select two answers. Both must be right to get the mark — there's no half credit.
- True or false. A single statement to judge.
- Which statement is correct? Two statements, one of them true.
Our mock test uses all four, in roughly the proportions you'll meet on the day.
How many mock tests should I do?
Until you pass three in a row comfortably — not once. A single lucky pass is the most common reason people walk into the test centre overconfident. Our app tracks this for you and won't tell you you're ready until your recent scores actually say so.
